This poem is inspired by an Inclusive Coaching workshop I’ve been taking this week, and thoughts about self-care. I conceived of it as a song with bluegrass music in Alison Krauss or Vince Gill’s voice. I don’t know why. Each verse/stanza is addressing a different person in my life. Don’t overthink it. I hope you enjoy it.
I know you sense
That something is wrong
Please don’t worry
I’ll be strong
I didn’t know
I wouldn’t have you for long
I hope you left in peace
I should have told you….
I’ll be here for me
When you’re gone
I’ll be here for me
When you’re gone
You were sweet
But then went sour
Your heart was here
They your soul left
Now you’re not
And I don’t need you
I’ll be here for me
When you’re gone
I’ll be here for me
When you’re gone
You’ve been my rock
All my life
I can’t imagine
Not having you there
But your voice
Will always live
Within me
You’re a part of me
Don’t worry about me
I’ll be here for me
When you’re gone
I’ll be here for me
When you’re gone
Oh wow that is so moving. I have goosebumps. I loved how you interweaved self care and independence with the acknowledgment that we can still recognize the longing for someone.
