A fascinating post, Maha… with some excellently chewy feedback to follow! I am well aware (and am constantly reminded!) of how lucky I am to have English as my first language… for academic work, for fiction, for technical work, etc. Most European conferences that I have been to have been conducted in English.

The downside of such a privilege, of course, is that it makes me lazy to need to learn a second language!
